Electrical contractor / electrician specializing in electric vehicle charging station consultation and installation but experienced with and available for all residential and light commercial electrical work; main electrical service upgrades, solar, hot tubs, dedicated circuits, troubleshooting, service work, remodels, lighting, lighting controls, ceiling, basically everything that one would need an electrician for.

I’m the owner, Tom Lory. I started working as an electrician 25 years ago and started Lory Electric in June of 2000. I lived in Mountain View, California at the time with two general contractors as my primary customers.

In January 2010, we purchased a home in Novato and I spent the next three years working crazy hours all over the Bay Area with far too much time spent effectively playing salesman for a corporation that was contracted as the preferred EV charging station supplier to many automakers in order for me get and perform actual electrical work. Recognizing that the cost to benefit ratio was way too high, I reduced my contractual territory back to Marin and parts of Sonoma and Napa counties. At the same time, I saw improvement in new customers from word-of-mouth and repeat business from EV customers closer to home.

My business is the largely the opposite of what believe to be the typical electrical contractor based on my time as an employee and sub-contractor to typical electrical contractors.

I have no employees which makes me 100% aware of, responsible and accountable for every aspect of my business and the job that you hired me to complete, eliminating uncorrected mistakes, corner-cutting, speeding communications and scheduling and minimizing my overhead to allow me to provide a very high level of customer service, design and workmanship at an average price.

With no one to pay, it’s impossible for a job not to be profitable and I never get caught up in how lucrative a job was per hour; I understand that I’m not going to get rich doing this and am perfectly content earning an honest living and striving to grow my business by happy customers and word-of-mouth, ideally to the point that I can hire a promising apprentice to work alongside me, pass on what I know and to provide a great job for.

I’m realistic about how much work I can get done but like working hard and don’t mind an 16 hour day when it’s followed by the balancing day or two off.
