Fast-casual vegetarian café opens in Pacheco Plaza Shopping Center

Foodies seeking natural and wholesome cuisine in Novato rejoice! Novato’s food scene is expanding for vegans, vegetarians, and those simply seeking natural, feel-good cuisine. Located at 454 Ignacio Blvd, Suite 464, Active Culture Natural Foods Café, a family-owned and operated fast-casual eatery opened its fourth location on October 23, 2021! Now Novato joins residents in Laguna Beach, San Clemente and Bend, Oregon, in boasting our own branch of this freshness-focused cafe concept.

The owners of Active Culture say they have a simple goal in mind – show that healthy food can taste amazing. Their secret? Simple, fresh, wholesome ingredients crafted into great tasting dishes that nourish your body.

Whether you’re gluten-free, soy-free, vegan, vegetarian, raw, cleansing, or just craving food that’s not overly processed or filled with chemicals, dyes or hydrogenated oils, you’ll want to give Active Culture a visit.

Active Culture provides a lively, counter service café experience where you’ll feel like family the moment you walk through the door. The food at Active Culture is always made from scratch, making you feel like you’re right at home. From dressings and sauces, to lentil burger patties and raw organic almond milk, all of it is made fresh, in house, each day.

Their menu includes more than 50 options, featuring various grain, acai and yogurt bowls; burritos, nachos, tacos and lentil burgers; breakfast bagels, avocado toast and huevos rancheros; and smoothies, shakes, juices, frozen yogurt, wine and beer.

When it comes to salads, Active Culture has you covered. Try the thinly sliced kale salad, coated in cranberries, grapes, walnuts, almond slices, parmesan cheese and a housemade lemon vinaigrette. Or the organic mixed greens salad, piled high with all the fresh fixings including quinoa, house-made hummus, carrots, red cabbage, cucumber, red onion, tomatoes, sprouts, sunflower seeds seasonings tossed in their lemon vinaigrette.

In the mood for something with an extra kick? Get your hands on the saucy barbecue burrito, filled with organic brown rice, black and red beans, cheddar cheese, slaw, red onion, sour cream, guacamole, cilantro, seasonings and barbecue beet sauce all tucked into a flour tortilla.

Quench your thirst with the blue-green envy, a chilled vegan beverage with organic house-made almond milk, banana, blueberries, kale, almond butter, cocoa nibs and chia seeds.

Another reason we love Active Culture, is they source ingredients locally when possible, including locally sourced dairy, honey and produce, complemented by bread from Acme Bread in Berkeley.

The café is open from 8 am. to 8 p.m. every day. Visit activeculturecafe.com for more information.
