Small Business Saturday is coming, on November 28th (the day after the post-Thanksgiving shopping spree known as Black Friday). Launched in 2008 by American Express, and since officially recognized by the US Senate, with support from governors, mayors and even the President, Small Business Saturday has sparked conversation and participation at a national level about people making a purposeful choice to invest their spending in small, locally-owned businesses.
As it happens, Shop Local Novato exists to promote just the same thing, as we recognize the power of participating the local economy. Supporting your Novato retailers helps jobs, and supporting locally-owned businesses helps support our unique quality of life, giving us more diverse shopping options than you might find in areas where national chains have wiped out smaller local retailers. Whether you’re shopping in Downtown Novato, or elsewhere around town, Small Business Saturday is a great moment to pause and consider the impact you can have by supporting a local bakery, toy store, restaurant or market. These businesses welcome your custom, participate in community events and help retain the smalltown feel that makes Novato a special place to live.
