St. Paddy’s Day is Thursday, March 17th, and as ever it’s an excuse for people of all backgrounds to wear a little green, claim Irish heritage (however implausibly) and perhaps down an Irish stout or two.
With bars like Finnegan’s and Moylan’s in town, lovers of good ale have plenty of choices when it comes to a pint, whether imported from Ireland or brewed right here in town.
If you prefer your ale in food form, check out Jamie Oliver’s recipe for beef and ale stew. For a vegetarian alternative, here’s an Irish root vegetable stew from Irish brothers David and Stephen, a.k.a. the Happy Pear. For even more recipe ideas, the Food Network has an entire section on St. Patrick’s Day, covering everything from soda bread to green velvet layer cake, and the classic corned beef and cabbage. Whole Foods is another great option for organic staples and specialties, as are Nugget Market and Harvest Market.
Our best advice for anyone looking to enjoy St. Pat’s and still feel good about themselves in the morning? Sign up for Novato’s 2016 Lucky Run on Sunday the 16th of March, put on an emerald colored t-shirt and pre-emptively run off some of those corned beef and Guinness calories. If that means updating your sporting attire, between Old Town Sports and All Season Soccer, we’ve got you covered locally.
