Pete’s Barber Shop is a salon and barbershop perfect for every member of your family, women and men and children. We are dog friendly. Conveniently located in Old Town Novato on Grant Avenue where visitors typically find plenty of free parking we also have parking in the back . Walk-ins are welcome, but you can always make an appointment by calling 415 892-9598. Ask for Joy if you want a shave. (Good idea for a gift certificate!)

Here’s a short history of Pete’s Barber Shop. The barber shop has been located at various locations, all on Grant Avenue in Novato. The first ‘Pete’ was Clarence Peters. He owned the barber shop from sometime in the early 1940’s until just after 1970. Mr. Peters sold the barber shop to Jake Vanderziel, the second ‘Pete’. Joy Ambra, the third ‘Pete’ and current owner, worked for Jake for a decade. Joy bought the building (at the current location) in old town in 1988. Jake sold the business to Joy in 1989 and then came to work for her for 10 years until his retirement. Joy is a second generation barber; Joy’s father owned a barber shop one block from the White House in Washington D.C. Joy says, “I wanted the old time feel of the barber shop of the past, like the one in Mayberry, R.F.D. A place where everyone comes by to play checkers… It’s the first modern old fashioned barbershop; a place for the whole family!”
