Pick of the week: Flour Chylde

Looking for a good gluten-free bakery in Novato? No worries! Flour Chylde Bakery on Grant Avenue has the answer to your prayers. Located in the heart of old-town Novato, this rising local star specializes in making fresh bread, cookies, decadent cakes, cupcakes, pies, tortes, and more – all sans gluten!

Owner and baker Catherine Bragg brings magic from oven to table with her tempting baked goods that look and taste every bit as decadent as conventional offerings. Her original recipes highlight intense, rich flavors and texture that keep her customers clamoring for more.

Favorites include Flour Chylde’s swoon-worthy Little Black Dress torte which combines bittersweet chocolate, espresso, and brandy into a dessert fit for any chocoholic, or the aptly named Rapture Torte: a dense, rich flourless cake which features Guittard chocolate married with vanilla bean.

For the holidays, Bragg is mixing up some heavenly seasonal offerings including a Chocolate Peppermint Bark Cake with white chocolate-peppermint buttercream and peppermint bark candy, as well as a masterful Chocolate Buche de Noel filled with fresh mascarpone cream that’s finished with dark chocolate fudge icing.

In addition, Flour Chylde now offers a selection of fresh baked gluten-free breads – including multi-grain rounds, baguettes, sandwich buns, and cinnamon-raisin bagels – as well as a line of gluten-free crackers and dry baking mixes.

The on-site cafe is the perfect place to grab a gluten-free egg sandwich for breakfast, or delicious sandwiches (served on their fresh baked breads), organic salads, frittatas and more for lunch.

Flour Chylde Bakery is located at 850 Grant Avenue and is open Tuesday through Sunday (closed Mondays starting December 1st; visit the website for hours). Catering is also available. For more information or to place your holiday order, call 415-883-7700 or visit www.flourchylde.com.
