The wait is finally over for San Marin residents – Pini Hardware has officially opened its doors at 191 San Marin Drive, bringing their renowned service and extensive inventory to a second Novato location. This new store offers everything local homeowners need, from traditional hardware and home improvement supplies to grills, lawn & garden equipment, and beyond.
For the Young brothers – Tom, Russ, and David – who have carried forward their family’s legacy since 1968, this expansion marks the realization of a long-held vision. “I would say 20… 25 years it’s been a topic for us,” reflects Tom Young, co-owner of Pini Hardware. “When we moved from Downtown Novato to the Nave Shopping Center 20 years ago, we kind of knew then that we eventually would put a second store somewhere in Novato.”
The decision to open in San Marin Plaza came naturally when property owners approached the Young brothers about bringing a hardware store to this side of town. While the Nave Shopping Center location maintains its contractor-focused inventory, the San Marin store is designed with local homeowners in mind.
“Really, it’s just a mini version of the Nave Shopping Center location,” Tom explains. But what sets this new venture apart is its adaptive approach to community needs.
“Now that we’re actually open, we’re looking for the community to come in and say, ‘Boy, it would be really nice if you could have this or if you had that.’ We’re taking notes from the community during this time on what they want to see over here. This store is going to be kind of ongoing, shifting stuff around for the first year as we tailor it to what the community needs.”

When asked about the secret to Pini Hardware’s enduring success, the Young brothers’ answer reflects their grandfather’s wisdom from 1968: it’s all about customer service and community connection. “He really put that into our heads, that ‘hey, it’s all about the customers that come in here,'” Tom shares. “And they really are the reason that motiviated us to open this store. Without this community, there is no Pini Hardware.”
