You can learn a lot about a person through their favorite pastry. Sweet or savory? Chocolatey or fruity? Doughy or flaky? Whatever it is you love about your favorite pastry, enjoy this special treat on National Pastry Day — Wednesday, December 9th! Novato is chock-full of amazing pastry spots all over town that are open for pick-up and takeout.

In the Downtown Center on Grant Avenue, Creekside Bakery makes handmade pastries with organic flour and butter — try their caramel apple & custard breakfast wreath or their ham & Marin French brie quiche. Just down the street, you’ll find Rustic Bakery’s selection of freshly baked muffins, scones, croissants, and pastries that highlight seasonal and local ingredients.

Travel a few blocks east to get Dr. Insomniac’s savory ham and cheese croissant or homemade blueberry or lemon poppyseed muffins! A block away, you’ll find gluten-free options at Flour Chylde, like grain-free and sugar-free tiger morning muffins, chocolate olive oil fritters, and gluten-free coffee cakes.

North on Redwood Boulevard, Teeny Cake is offering curbside pickup & delivery Wednesday-Saturday 12-4. Choose from a dozen, half-dozen, or four assorted teeny cupcakes ranging from red velvet, chocolate, vanilla, or cookies & cream (yum!).

South on Diablo Avenue, A Piece of Cake & Confections will be baking up unique treats like walnut baklava, fresh fruit tarts, eclairs, and French macarons. On South Novato Blvd you can pick up apple turnovers, strawberry cream-cheese croissants, and churros at Redwood Bagel Company. Also on South Novato Blvd, Classic Culinaire’s new pastry chef, Erica, bakes exquisite mushroom and leek hand pies, as well as fruit galettes, brownies and more.

Last but not least, John and Jill’s Cheesecake on Commercial Boulevard in Bel Marin Keys will be open from 8am-3pm, and you can pick up a mini cheesecake if that’s your “pastry” of choice. Try flavors like kahlua almond, eggnog, pumpkin praline, or white chocolate peppermint!

As always, we are grateful to have such stellar local businesses here in Novato, and our local pastry shops are perfect examples of the unique variety they offer. We hope you think local on National Pastry Day and find the treat that’s near and dear to your heart!
