Father’s Day – The Novato Way

Father’s Day is Sunday, June 17th which means it’s time to start planning a day to spend with Dad and there are plenty of ways to make him feel special without leaving town. Whether it’s going out to eat, a picnic or just hanging at the house, these Novato restaurants and retailers are ready to help.

Dad Friendly Dining

For breakfast, Marvin’s Restaurant is a Novato favorite that will be a guaranteed hit with Dad. Voted “Best Place for Breakfast” in a bunch of North Bay awards, Marvin’s will make for a great start to the day.

Bacon is another delicious breakfast option on Grant Ave. With more than a dozen different benedicts and made-to-order frittatas, Dad will be in breakfast heaven.

If you know Dad won’t be in the mood to go out in the morning, run down to Donut Works and pick up a dozen of his favorites with some coffee before he wakes up. The surprise is a simple gesture that will go a long way.

For lunch options, Novato has Father’s Day covered. Moylan’s Brewery Co. in Rowland Plaza is a great choice for a hearty family lunch. Since 1995, Moylan’s has been producing delicious and unique beers that are now nationally distributed. With dozens of beers to choose from, a great menu and welcoming outdoor seating, it’s built for a family outing with Dad.

For the wine loving Dad, make a reservation at Beso Bistro and Wine Bar. Their wine list includes wines from more than fifty different California wineries and their menu offers a delicious combination of seafood dishes and classic favorites. Our pro tip: go for brunch and order the banana beignets, you won’t be disappointed.

Looking for something a little more casual? Try Extreme Pizza or JJ’s Burger Joint. Both places have awesome menus filled with Dad friendly favorites.

If Dad’s the outdoorsy type, grab a sandwich from Michael’s Sourdough or Italian Delite before heading to Stafford Lake for a picnic and some fishing. Dad will appreciate the quality time with low fuss.

For a Dad That Has It All

The perfect Father’s Day gift is bound to be at Pini Ace Hardware. Celebrating 100 years in service, they’re well versed on what the handy Dad needs or wants. Whether it’s a fresh set of grilling tools, a new power drill or an outdoor patio set, they can help steer you in the right direction.

Beercraft has the perfect gift for any beer loving Dad. Their Craft Beer of the Month Club features selections from four different breweries each month allowing Dad to check out brewmasters from all over the country. Our recommendation: sign him up a will-call membership and use it as an excuse to grab a pint with Dad each month.

For the music loving Dad, Watt’s Music on Grant Ave has new and used vinyls, cds, tapes and posters from all of music’s biggest names. If he no longer has a record player, try framing a vinyl of his favorite album for an extra personalized gift. If Dad has always wanted to learn to play, Marin Music Center offers adult classes. Reserve a spot for you and him to enjoy some quality time while learning a new skill.

If Dad’s a sports fan, Novato has plenty of options. Head to All Seasons Soccer for a new jersey he can rock during the World Cup. He’ll be thrilled and you’ll get to see him wear it all summer long. For the cycling Dad, Old Town Sports is there to tune up his bike and get it ready for his favorite trail rides.

If tuning up the car is more Dad’s style, call in on the folks at family-owned Viking Auto Parts on Sweetser Ave: they have parts and gifts galore for petrol-head pops. Alternatively, buy him a gift card for a car wash or detailing at Matt & Jeff’s Car Wash in Vintage Oaks – packages start from just $15.99.

A great way to say thank you to Dad for all his hard work is the gift of relaxation. Renovia Massage Center has a variety of treatments tailored to benefit different lifestyles. Pick between the Golfer’s Massage, Runner’s Massage, Signature Massage or any other treatments you think Dad would appreciate most.

For simpler gift ideas, try Masterpiece Coffee Co or Copperfields. Masterpiece produces small batch, Certified Organic coffee and espresso in a variety of delicious roasts. Pick up a pound of two for a gift that keeps on giving. Copperfields Downtown has all the best summer reads in Dad’s favorite genre. Whether it’s a grilling cookbook, a mystery novel or political satire, they have it all.

To top off whatever gift you choose, add a great Father’s Day card. CVS on Grant Ave and at The Square have a great selection. You’ll also find good options at Target in Vintage Oaks, and at Copperfield’s on Grant Avenue.

However you decide to show your appreciation to Dad, think local first and let a Novato business help you show your love.
